Gayoung BB Yang, originally from South Korea, has transitioned from the animated screens to the imaginative pages of children’s books and an eagerly awaited graphic novel series, slated for release in 2025. Her childhood, rich with stories gleaned from television and books, became her solace and inspiration, laying the foundation for a lifelong journey in storytelling.
After an intensive education in visual arts, writing, and liberal arts at Korea National University of Art, Gayoung ventured to Canada to specialize in animation at Vancouver Film School. This path led her to contribute her skills to acclaimed projects, including “Carmen Sandiego” and “Snoopy in Space,” marking her as a talented animator passionate about bringing stories to life.
Now, Gayoung’s focus has shifted towards crafting her own narratives, stepping away from animation to concentrate fully on writing and illustrating. Her upcoming works aim to foster a sense of wonder and companionship, drawing on her experiences and the creative energy that has fueled her since childhood.
This new venture represents not just a change in medium but a deepening of Gayoung’s commitment to storytelling. With her graphic novel series on the horizon, she stands at the cusp of bringing new worlds to young readers, worlds filled with adventure, empathy, and the magic of discovery.
